Protecting Your Rods And Reels From Salt Water Corrosion
For those anglers who fish in salt water should know how corrosive saltwater is and how important it is in protecting your rods and reels from salt water corrosion.
After fishing at sea, your rods and reels will be coated with saltwater from sea spray and such. The saltwater will dry away quickly but will leave behind a layer of salt. If these are not removed promptly, they will eat into your equipments eventually and you don’t want that to happen.
Some reel spools are not salt water resistant so they will need more maintenance and care.
Hosing them down with fresh water can help but sometimes that is just not enough because the water is not able to get down and penetrate through to flush out all the salt especially for spools with line in them.
And before you know it, the next time you look, you see salt gathering on your spool and the area below that has corroded. That will put a permanent mark on your spool and I’m sure nobody wants that to happen to their reel spool.
One of the ways to prevent that is to make use some corrosion control salt removing agent such as Salt-Away. It is water based, biodegradable, non-hazardous and safe for use for any area exposed to salt. It contain properties that not only attack and remove salt, and will also help remove old salt deposit and rust deposit too with repeated use.
Salt-Away Professional Strength Spray is a spray on application to prevent salt from accumulating and removal of salt build up.
A good start would be to give your rods, guides, reels and line a spray on before you even set off.
There isn’t a need to rinse it leaving a protective film over stuff you have sprayed on. The good thing about Salt-Away is that it contains no hydrocarbon solvents so it will not remove lubrication too making it very useful.
This 4 ounce spray is a mild formula designed for anglers and I do suggest that you get one for yourself if you haven’t done so yet.
It also come in concentrated version, Salt-Away concentrate 32oz (946ml) or 1 US Gallon bottle. It has to be diluted and can used as motor flush for inboard, outboard motors and pretty much anywhere on or around a boat.
Some even use it to spray and flush the undercarriage of cars to remove road salt that has been accumulated.
So with a little more extra care taken in protecting your rods and reels from salt water corrosion, they will go a long way giving you hassle free fishing experience and protecting your investment that you have put into your fishing equipment.
